Take Pride in Your Business

by Carissa Dunphy on May 27, 2010

Are you fully satisfied with the image of your business? Do you feel as though you should be seen more? It seems as though working on ones image gets put on the back burner when managing other aspects of business. The good news is that the task of reaching your image and presence goals can easily get checked off of your list – with the right help and in less time than you would think. You too can be excited when giving out your website address or handing someone your business card.

A website can be a very valuable tool for a business for the following reasons:

  • An online storefront: if it is after hours or someone is simply looking for your phone number or location, they can find it.
  • Company details: this is a more in depth store. Visitors can learn of the products and/or services you offer. You can also list the fine print details (shipping details, lead time, policies, etc,) that visitors can read at their leisure and important customer reviews.
  • Information resource: you can further educate visitors with helpful resources, industry related information, company blog or more.
  • Multi-tasking time saver: if your potential customer can request information or get questions answered on your website then that is one less step to completing the sale, not to mention they can do so 24/7.
  • Potential for Growth: a website does not limit your business geographically – you can sell your product to anyone, anywhere. Also, a properly optimized website can reach out to obtain more customers than your competitors, and many more customers than would drive by your store.
  • I have worked with several businesses who sank or swam when the economy hit turbulence. The businesses who sank were the people who put their image and online presence task on the back burner. The businesses who swam were the people who took charge and got the task done. They insist that their presence on the internet got them through the tough times. Now that the economy is on the upswing, their competitors are no longer in business and they are soaring with previous customers and their new customers from their competitors who no longer exist.

If you are only able to do one thing I would recommend getting your website completed, optimized and efficient. I work with a great company, Ovaleye Web Solutions, that can help you with all of your web needs. If your site is fully optimized and serves you well then I would recommend getting your name out there and become more visible to potential customers. One way to do this is by networking on social media sites, this can be very effective and is generally pretty cost effective. If you need guidance, Ovaleye can help you, or if you are a do-it-yourself person a great book to get you started is “The Social Media Marketing Book“. Another do-it-yourself idea is to self educate yourself with some online resources such as webinars, video tutorials or support forums.

Take the time to check this off of your list. After you do, let me know: What have you done for your business’ image or presence that you have seen the best results from?
