5 FREE Web Based Productive Tools

Hoot Suite for desktop and iPhone

I have played around with nearly every twitter and facebook account management platform and I am finally very satisfied with HootSuite for many reasons. Some favorite features are the ability to have multiple accounts – twitter, facebook, fan pages and others – which you can post one comment to however many accounts you want to – some programs only allow one or another.  You can also view and customize your streams and you can also create different tabs for different preferences.  Another big seller is scheduled posts – I am not a fan of people who schedule their posts because it usually means they aren’t online to respond to comments when their post goes live; However, This is a great feature for facts and calendar events.  My most favorite feature is that you create a HootSuite account, which syncs up with my desktop and iPhone so all of my streams and views are all the same.  When I used other platforms, each one was saved on your hard drive which did not carryover the settings to your second device. You can also track the clicks from links you post.

Website Statistics with Ovaleye Web Solutions

You have to host your website somewhere so why not with Ovaleye who provides you with amazing statistics for free from AWStats.  I prefer using this website traffic monitoring tool as opposed to another because of the ease of use. The navigation menu is right in front of you – no looking around to find the statistic you are looking for. A few of my favorite features are the time of day stat which shows you a graph of each hour of the day so you can see what hour of the day your site gets the most visits.  I also like the day of the week stat – I use this data to schedule posts since I will most likely get higher readership on the higher traffic days of the week.  There are so many other statistics I can’t name them all: referring sites, browsers visitors use, search keyphrases, entry and exit pages and on and on.  Ovaleye made the transfer of hosting of my website super easy and painless.

Picnik

This is a great tool for photo editing at any skill level. Being web based you can use it anywhere and you don’t need the computer your software is installed on. Picnik is also a really fast way to resize and crop images to get your photo the right size to display or upload. Far too many times I have seen photos on websites that would have had so much more effect if they had been cropped or had a slight color adjustment. You can edit any image very quickly and without an account.

Google Docs

Lately I have been finding myself using Google Docs more often. I use it for one reason: sharing documents, with myself and others. When I work on a document shared with someone else it is very convenient in that all parties can read and edit and the document stays in one place and does not need to be emailed out after every modification. I also use Google Docs when I am working on a document in more than one location – it’s easier than carrying around a storage device. With all of the docs mobile apps out there you are bound to have one compatible with your smartphone that can sync with your google account.

Blip.fm

The last one has to be fun! This website Is essentially a web based mp3 player. You get to select the songs you like to add to your playlist, some also have the music videos. If you prefer, you could also find a DJ you like and listen to their music instead of creating tour own list. Either way, this website is a helpful tool in getting through your day with the music you want.

What web based tools do you use to keep productive?

Thanks for the info. I really need to setup a Blip.fm cause I need some music in the office while working after-hours.
